Bladder cancer resists cisplatin by tagging VDAC1 for mitophagy — blocking that pathway restores the drug's punch
A Southern Medical University team (Guangzhou) found bladder-cancer cells dodge chemo by tagging VDAC1 for destruction — flipping on "mitophagy" to eat their damaged mitochondria and survive cisplatin. The chain runs through a lactate-driven epigenetic mark that recruits Parkin to the mitochondria. Block that escape hatch and the drug bites again.
