A Sichuan group (Jiong Zhang and colleagues) cross-referenced the entire MitoCarta gene inventory against genetic data for acute and chronic kidney disease, using Mendelian randomization to sort correlation from likely cause. They pulled out a handful of mitochondrial genes that look causal — candidate targets worth a closer look.
